Let’s start with Kansas State University where Myron was engaged in learning to be a physics teacher and playing 5 instruments, including the oboe, glockenspiel and drums, in various organizations as well as teaching himself the guitar.
Teaching physics became his vocation, but music in many forms became his avocation. He began playing guitar in church groups, leading a choir and playing in nightclubs in his spare time.
In 1994 his first mission trip to Haiti began a lifelong passion for missions. They took him to many other places, including New Orleans, Costa Rica, Pine Ridge, SD, and Zambia over the last 29 years – with his travel guitar along.
In 2004 he and a friend started a guitar and vocal music group in his church called Many Strings of Joy. He played the 12-string guitar, bass and banjo. That group played contemporary Christian music in church and other venues for 20+ years, until his cancer diagnosis in 2023.
In 2023 he was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma, which is terminal brain cancer. The surgery to obtain that diagnosis resulted in an inability to read words. He is still able to play the guitar but unable to read the words of songs. This has been a huge loss.
The song we recorded was first sung by Myron and Lyn as a duet in 1998, in the church in Pine Ridge, SD, while they were both divorced from their original spouses. That led to falling in love and subsequently marriage in 1999. They have been singing together ever since.
