Jeff Wolinski is a consulting ecologist and longtime Baltimore, Maryland area bass player. He was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in March 2024 that had spread to three areas of his liver. Over the next year and a half he had three surgeries, two near bleedouts, two septic infections, and a number of other complications. All of this after being very healthy all of his life. He has made it a mission to share his story and urge people to get the colonoscopies that he unfortunately did not keep up with. Early detection is key!
Jeff has played with a number of Baltimore area bands, including The Bash and Cry Monday, and he played bass with Rob Fahey and The Pieces for 20 years. Rob is best known as one of the primary singers and songwriters for Baltimore based band The Ravyns who had a major label album which featured the hit Raised on the Radio that was an integral part of the Fast Times at Ridgemont High movie soundtrack.
For his Cancer Can Rock recording, Jeff wrote Get Out of Me (ME vs. TUMA) and assembled a great team of local Maryland musicians, including all of the members of his favorite local original music band, The Last Year Band (Niki Barr, vocals / BJ Kerwin, drums / Scott Ensign, keys / Scott Griffith, guitar). Singer, Niki Barr, battles with Jeff in the song as the embodiment of his cancer, or as Niki said “I’m your TUMA!”, which gave name to the subtitle of the song. Jeff’s good friend and the best guitar player around Kajun Kelley worked with Jeff to produce the demo for this song and contributed heavily to the song, including an epic guitar solo.
Jeff has recently put together a high end six-piece Duran Duran tribute band, The Duran Band. John Taylor is one of his all time favorite bass players. For more information go to theduranband.com or find them on Facebook.
